SUMMARY
values after infusion of 0.5 mol/l arabinose correspond with those of isotone saline and where therefore chosen as challenge conditions and applied in the main tests.
No significant differences between the Kin-values of the three groups (GSM, UMTS and sham) could be found in any of the investigated rat generations (F0-group1, F0- group2 and F2). Neither a longer duration of exposition from four to eleven months (F01 compared to F02) nor the continuous exposure of several generations (F01 compared to F2) did result in significant differences of the Kin-values.
Conclusion: Within special exposition chambers, it was possible to expose a large number of rats over several months and generations continuously to a homogeneous electromagnetic field of mobile radiation under far field conditions. A wb-SAR of 0.4 W/kg was achieved in the animals which equals the highest admitted value for exposure to stationary sources of radiation. The application of a quantitative measurement method in combination with the labialisation of the bbb increases the significance of the results, that chronic exposure to mobile radiation within the admitted german wb-SAR values has no effect on the integrity of the bbb of rats. In order to state a threshold which barely opens the bbb, further investigations with increasing SAR-values under challenge conditions are necessary.
